Have you ever met a stranger and bonded instantly over something bizarre? Andi and I have been in contact for over 12 years because of a random conversation.
We were both applying for the same job as 911 dispatchers. The application process requires a series of tests. After the second test, Andi and I happened to be parked next to each other. We both finished pretty quick and were leaving around the same time. We both lit cigarettes as we crossed the parking lot to our cars.
We paused to chat about our experience with the application process thus far. We knew that we both had a pretty good chance to make it into the hiring pool and potentially be selected for the actual training. Then our conversation took a strange twist.
We agreed on the fact that it is perfectly reasonable to visit more than one drive-through to assemble your preferred meal. Oddly enough, out of the infinite possibilities this creates, we chose the EXACT same items.

Ultimately, I passed on the job when I was offered the position. Andi accepted and is still there. We have never met or hung out other than the one conversation in the parking lot. One of us messages the other every so often to check in. We just felt a really weird connection. Maybe the reason will be clear someday.
